The cold days are back

I just couldn't resist to share these pics taken today. Isn't Felix gorgeous? He was lying in the front garden of the house enjoying the last sun rays in this cold Sundayafternoon. It seems it's time to light the fireplace and watch the bright red of the flame and listen to the sound of the wood burning. Yes, this is why I like Winter so much, sitting in front of the fireplace, reading a good book and have all my cats around me....well most of them on top of me helping with my reading ;-)))

The homepage is updated

Well today I took some time to work in the homepage. Finally it is updated with new pictures of all our cats, the plans are now in order and new links were added and some were updated.

We have no news from Lju and Xazul's mating, they are still in the get to know you fase. It seems that Lju has lost her heat which is normal when a female goes into a new place surrounded by new scents and a new cat. Let's hope her heat comes back soon.

Iris was mated and it's still to soon to know whether she is pregnant, I will know so around the first week of December. If so the babies are due between the 17th and 22nd January.

Kunjara still shows no signs of heat. The temperature is lower now and the nights are getting colder and maybe this will do the trick and gets my beautiful princess in the mood for love.

Finally some good news

I seem to have no time for the internet these days. Since school has started, I'm trying to update the homepage and the blog, but I've never felt this tired.

It seems that the long car trips, the huge amount of papers and documents to produce at school have drained all my energy. Well, but enough complaints.
Today I have some great news, finally someone decided that it's time to have babies. Iris and Felix are in love again and since last Saturday, they have started a new "love row", so, probably, we are expecting little furry babies in January.

Unfortunately neither Kunjara nor Ghost felt the calling of nature yet. I blame it on this horrible weather we are having here in Portugal. It's very odd for this time of the year temperatures of 23ºC during the day. It's too hot, too damp and it doesn't stop raining. It's seems that we're living in a tropical climate and so the cats get affected. Their coat has started to grow, but not their mood for mating.

Lju was in heat last weekend so we took her to a friend's cattery and we are waiting for the good news. So I guess Ghost's mating will have to be postponed because we don't want so many little kittens at once. For now Iris we'll be the first, then Lju(I hope) and then Kunjara. But plans, well, you know how they go....

Lynx pardinus

As most people know by now the lynx is my favourite feline, especially our Iberian Lynx, Lynx Pardinus with its own unique features, that makes him one of the most beautiful and enchanting animals ever to have walked this Earth.

Because of his unique characteristics along with the destruction of his habitat and consequently his primary food suply- the wild rabbit - the Lynx pardinus is the most threatened feline in the world. Their population is estimated to be around 200 in all of Iberia(Portugal and Spain).
It's very urgent to preserve their habitats and enhance the wild rabbit population.
Today good news arrived from E.U. - € 4 million to help this endangered animal along with three other species of birds that are native to Portugal.

Our Liga para a Protecção da Natureza (LPN) - League for Nature Preservation is doing a wonderful job with a programme of awareness. Here is the link in case you are interested, and it has an English version: http://www.lpn.pt/#20-PT

These were the first cubs to have ever been born in captivity. Spain/Donaña Park.

Lju is in our plans

Our red female Lju has been living with my sister for several months now. We decided that we will try at least one litter with her before she gets neutered. She is a very sweet lady, but she didn't developed the way that we wanted. Her ears could be better placed and she isn't strongly built like her mother Aqua or her father Felix.

Maybe in her next heat we will take her to meet her prince charming and after the babies move to their new homes, she will be neutered.

She is living with Gaspar, our red male who is already neutered and although he is a male and moreover neutered, Lju weighs more than Gaspar does. We have him neutered because he weighted so little. I guess it's in his genes to be so thin...

Still waiting

Sorry for this long waiting, since the new school year has begun I seem to have no time for the computer. I spend all day at school and the rest of the time preparing classes and attending meetings at school.

The website hasn't been updated because I didn't have the time to take new pictures of the cats and the news here haven't been much. Still waiting for Kunjara and Xazul to have their love affair. She doesn't seem that interested and we will leave her there for a few more weeks waiting for a successfull mating.

Over here Ghost isn't that eager into getting in heat as well. Just crazy playing for her and Felix. They both seem enjoying running and chasing each other, but that's that.

Feline look

Iris was weighted yesterday along with all our cats. It's the end of Summer weight so that we can see how much they have lost during the Summer.

Iris weighs a lot, she is our biggest female and it seems that she isn't affected by the heat at all. She has the perfect coat which she never sheds, only a few hairs occasionally, always shining and a bit harsh like a Norwegian is supposed to have.

Besides all these great qualities, she is a super protective "owner", that is to say that she owns us and not the other way around which is great to be bossed around by a cat who is always trying to eat your food, sleep in your bed or even to sleep on your keyboard when you are trying to write something on the computer :-)) She is a beautiful feline lady with a mind of her own and whom nobody can resist.

Kunjara and her Prince Charming

Kunjara is at our friends' cattery, Gabriel's Place, to meet her first boyfriend, Tigressan's Xazul. I can't tell you how exciting we are, we can't wait to hear from our friend, Ana, to tell us the good news.

So far, nothing as happened, they are still in the "get to know you" fase, but they are the best of friends by now.

Kunjara is our talking cat, always purring and expressing her opinion by meowing some short sentences ;-)) She has the sweetest and tender eyes, and the way she lays her head on our laps just warms my heart, it's as she understands what we are feeling.

Xazul is a very impressive male, well built, strong and with a good coat, but most of all he has also a great temperament, very talkative a sweet boy.

These are the reasons we are so excited with this mating. Let's hope for a soon one because I can't wait to see their furry ones.

A new adventure

We have decided to have our own blog to be closer to people. The webpage does not provide day to day information and I must confesse that I'm not a big of an updater, it takes forever and by the time the site is updated something new has happened ; -)

We will use this blog to publish the new litters and the pics of our furry tribe as well as some curiosities and informations we think important or funny. This does not mean the webpage will be discarded nor neglected, we will continue to update it as we always did.

Of course we had to choose Felix to be the face and fur of this new adventure. Our sweet and lovely boy has sired almost of all our litters and he means the world to us.

This blog will be written only in English.
